On Tuesday 9th May, the Kelly Kelly Legal team travelled to Adelaide to volunteer at Ronald McDonald House in the Family Dinner Program. This is an opportunity for corporate and community groups to cook and share dinner with the families living at Ronald McDonald House.

Ronald McDonald House is a “home-away-from-home” for families with seriously sick or injured children who also have a lot of distance between the hospital and home. Distance can mean families are divided and for children facing a serious medical crisis, nothing seems scarier than not having your family close by for love and support.

Ronald McDonald House is built on the simple idea that nothing else should matter when a family is focused on the health of their child – not where they can afford to stay, where they will get their next meal or where they will sleep each night. They believe that when a child is hospitalised the love and support of family is as powerful as the strongest medicine prescribed. They provide this service at little or no cost to the families.

The Family Dinner Program gives families the chance to meet some bright, happy people who will talk about ordinary, everyday things like the football, weather and current affairs. It’s a chance for the families to have a break from a long and often emotional day.

The Kelly Kelly Legal team provided a delicious BBQ dinner, salads and fruit skewers for dessert which was enjoyed by all. We were lucky enough to play games with the children and some of the staff played pool with the older children while they waited for dinner.

The staff really enjoyed the experience and speaking to all the amazingly brave and resilient families. It certainly made everyone appreciate how lucky they are and grateful to have such wonderful facilities available to families with sick children.

Kelly Kelly Legal look forward to making this an ongoing commitment.
